our vision
All people, regardless of resources or past life experiences, will have access to dying in a safe environment with the support of people committed to honoring their comfort, dignity, and humanity.

our mission
Solace Home provides safe shelter and compassionate end-of-life caregiving within an adult family home for people experiencing terminal illness and housing insecurity.

our story

During the course of her palliative medicine practice, Solace Friends founder Dr. Ann Catlett, MD was greatly distressed at having to discharge a patient with end-stage lung cancer from the hospital to the street because he lacked the resources necessary to live out his final days in a safe and sheltered living environment. After realizing that a person experiencing homelessness and terminal illness could end up dying alone and without services, shelter, or compassionate companionship, Dr. Catlett mobilized a group of committed and talented volunteers to create Solace Friends.

Solace Friends, which became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2018, dedicated itself to fundraising and establishing operations to open a home for persons experiencing housing insecurity and terminal illness in the Madison community. After years of board and committee members' dreaming and dedication, Solace Friends celebrated the opening of Solace Home on April 23, 2024.
